About the name:
The Numa Backpack was named after Numa Peak in Glacier National Park (48.9033 N, 114.1612 W). In a remote corner of Glacier National Park, Numa Peak rises nearly 5,000 feet above nearby Bowman Lake. To view the peak up close, hikers can traverse the Numa Lookout Trail, which brings them by the Numa Ridge Lookoutone of only four working fire lookout posts in the park. It was here that Desert Solitaire author Edward Abbey summered as a seasonal fire lookout and noted, “Above us loom a number of bare, grim, craggy, snow-dappled peaks.”
